In May 2010, DDB Technologies, LLC filed patent infringement lawsuits against AOL Inc., NHL Interactive CyberEnterprises LLC, NHL Enterprises LP, and  NHL Enterprises Inc., claiming the companies infringed a patent portfolio related to sports broadcasting technologies.

The patents-at-issue, US Patent Nos. 5,526,479, 5,671,347, 6,204,862, and 7,373,587, cover such technologies as play-by-play text and animation and real-time simulation of a sporting event.

DDB Technologies previously sued MLB Advanced Media, LP, the media company of Major League Baseball, over the same technology. The two companies reached a settlement agreement in March 2010. Since that patent infringement lawsuit settlement, DDB has filed six additional patent lawsuits.
